Title
Gilded strap fitting
Description
English: A gilt copper alloy strap fitting. The main part of the fitting is penannular, with prominent knops at the terminals, and split in 2 to fit onto a strap. Within the area enclosed ia a moulded scallop shell, one face visible on either side. Opposite the mouth of the ring is a tubular loop, probably for suspension. The whole item was origianlly gilded, with traces remaining particularly on the shells. Both faces of the fitting are the same. It probably worked to suspend something from a strap or belt, possibly as part of a set, such as sword belt fittings.
