Summary edit

Description
English: Girlsta loch, small island. Loch of Girlsta, island.

Girlsta takes its name from ‘Geirhilder’, who was the daughter of the Viking ‘Hrafna flocki’ who over-wintered in Shetland before setting out to colonise Iceland. Unfortunately ‘Geirhilder’ was drowned in the loch after falling through the ice.

Tradition says that she was buried on the small island in the loch.
