| Description |
English: Glangors - a ruined smallholding The Welsh word for a smallholding is a 'tyddyn' (pl. tyddynod). Glangors is a typical slate-quarrying district tyddyn and would have been farmed by three or four generations of slate quarrymen-farmers. With the closure of the quarries and the increasing impracticality of farming such tiny and physically marginal units, many were abandoned. The availability of new council houses built after WWII, with all the modern facilities which these damp cottages did not possess, such as indoor toilets, baths and often electricity, accelerated the shift of population from the marginal zone. |
