English: A majestic glass-block castle serves as the centerpiece of Serenity Glass Park in Port Allegany, Pennsylvania, as seen on an April 2022 afternoon. Dedicated in 2017, this small "pocket park" at the northeast corner of Main and Mill Streets features sculptures, architectural features, and other artworks that pay homage to the town's history as a glassmaking center, which stretches back to 1900 with the opening of the Olean Glass Company's bottle plant, which continues on in business today under the ownership of the Artagh Group. However, even more consequential to Port Allegany's industrial importance was the Pittsburgh-Corning Corporation's local plant, which opened in 1938 as America's only manufacturer of industrial glass block. |
