Summary edit

Description Five-Storied Pagoda, Senjokaku Hall, Miyajima island. Very close to the Itsukushima Shrine, after climbing a small hill covered with greenery, you will find two contrasting but equally spectacular structures: the 27.6 meters tall Five-Story Pagoda (Gojunoto), built in 1407, and the impressive Senjokaku, the Hall of One Thousand Tatami Mats, dating since 1587, the largest construction on the island. Founded by Toyotomi Hideyoshi the hall was unpainted at the time of his death and so remained so to this day.
