| Description |
This is a large transistor radio, made by Sylvania. I've heard Golden Shield was a Japanese company, which Sylvania partnered with early on to offer transistor radios in the U.S. This one's very well-built, with thick plastic casing, a solid metal handle, and a beautiful gold lion crest graphic on the front. It measures approximately 6-3/4 x 4-1/4 x 2". Additional Information provided by "Transistor Radios" about Golden Shield Corporation: Golden Shield Corporation was established in 1959. Their corporate office and warehouse was located in Great Neck, Long Island, New York. The company's main business was the distribution of home goods such as cameras, radios, televisions, sewing machines, washing machines, vacuums and typewriters. Sylvania did make many of their earlier radios in the U.S. but much of that manufacturing moved to Japan in the early 60's. |
