| Description | de:Gräppelensee Absturzstelle des Lancaster-Bombers : On April 28, 1944, at 1:15 a.m., a British Avro Lancaster bomber crashed above Graeppelensee. The Swiss anti-aircraft and a German fighter had tried to shoot him down; who hit the machine is unclear. The plane caught fire in mid-air, exploded and crashed into the slope. Two of the crew of eight were able to save themselves with a parachute, the other six lost their lives. A plaque at the accident site commemorates the crash. |
