| Description |
The Fuente de las Granadas is in fact a replica of a model dedicated to the Empress of the French, Eugénie de Montijo, a native of Granada. The model appears in the 1860 catalogue of the Parisian foundry: Fonderie d'art du Val d'Osne, Commissioned from Granada sculptor Ramiro Megías for the 25th anniversary of the Granada Municipal Water Board, this fountain cast in Albolote is the only monumental bronze fountain in Granada. Installed in 2006 in the place left empty by the removal of the monument to Isabella the Catholic and Columbus (1892-1960), the work of sculptor Manuel Pezzi Cereto, it has been nicknamed "The bride and groom's fountain" by the people of Granada, as on Saturdays and Sundays it is often used as a backdrop for souvenir photos of the ceremony. |
