Title
English: Grandstand and race track at The Meadows, August 10, 1902
Description
English: Note from researcher (2/2015): It was the first horse race ever staged at the new track (the grandstand is clearly unfinished in the picture). It wasn't the first professional race; that would come a week or so later. It was a matinee race, free to the public, featuring amateur horse racers (both saddle & sulky). Although the owners of the track called themselves the King County Fair Association (a private corporation), they would never hold a King County fair at The Meadows. However, after professional horse racing ended at the track after the 1908 season, the King County Fair Association dissolved. A new, unrelated King County Fair Association was incorporated in April of 1912 and a King County fair was held at The Meadows for the first time in September of 1912. Another was held there in 1913, and it was the last at The Meadows.
