| Description |
Looking down a road that led to East Germany. The road was blocked at the East German guard post in the middle of the photo. I took the photo from Grasleben, the closest town to Heidwinkel. A bit of Weferlingen, in East Germany, is visible in the background. It was late April. Fruit trees (probably apple) were beginning to blossom. I was stationed at a U.S. Army outpost in Heidwinkel in 1960-1961. I took this photo two or three weeks before leaving, to return to the U.S. and he end of my Army service. |
