Grazer Dom, Dom zu Graz (Graz, Austria) English: One of thwo shrines designed by Andrea Mantegna shown in the Grazer Dom in Graz / Styria / Austria / EU. Copies of the reliefs are shown in the museum of Millstatt Abbey / district Spittal an der Drau.
Deutsch: Eine der Brauttruhen (Cassone) entworfen von Andrea Mantegna und Bartolomeo Melioli, die Teil der Mitgift der Tochter Paola Gonzaga des Herzogs Ludovico II von Mantua waren, die am 15. November 1478 in Bozen mit dem Graf Leonhard von Görz auf Schloss Bruck bei Lienz (Osttirol) verheiratet wurde.[1] In der Inventarliste (Kopie im Stiftsmuseum Millstatt) sind vier Truhen verzeichnet, wovon drei erhalten sind. Diese Reliefs gehören zu den beiden größeren Truhen, an deren Vorderseiten Pastiglia mit der Darstellung von Trajans gerechtem Urteil angebracht waren. Nach 1495/96 gelangten die Truhen in den Besitz des St. Georgs-Ritterordens im Stift Millstatt (Kärnten / Österreich), ab 1598 an die nachflogenden Jesuiten. Als 1617 Papst Paul V. dem Grazer Dom Reliquien spendete, ließen die Jesuiten die beiden Truhen aus Millstatt holen. Auf den aus Eichenholz gefertigten Truhen sind jeweils drei Reliefs zu sehen, die aus Bein und Elfenbein im Stil der italienischen Frührenaissance gestaltet sind. Dargestellt sind sechs Triumphwägen, entsprechend der Dichtung I Trifoni des Francesco Petrarca. |
