The Pollitt Class D5 (GCR Class 11) 4-4-0 Locomotives were based on Parker's last design as locomotive superintendent of the Manchester Sheffield & Lincolnshire Railway (MS&LR). Although he left in 1893, the first D5 was not built until July 1895. Only 6 D5s were produced as Pollitt produced a modified version the D6 from 1897 onwards. One interesting feature of this locomotive was it was the subject of Thomas Rudd's first colour-plate reproduction for The Locomotive Magazine. A picture of Manchester Sheffield & Lincolnshire Railway 4-4-0 No 694, which was printed by Alf Cooke of Leeds as an 8½in x 15in folding plate in The Locomotive Magazine of July 1897. (The picture is now in the National Railway museum collection) Thomas Rudd painted pictures of locomotives and trains for over 40 years leaving an incomparable record of the appearance of all forms of the railway scene in the days of the pre-grouping companies. Most of Rudd's work was done for The Locomotive Publishing Company, his pictures usually being signed 'F. Moore' or 'F.M.'
