Description
English: Hypolimnas bolina, the great eggfly,common eggfly or in New Zealand the blue moon butterfly is a species of nymphalid butterfly found from Madagascar to Asia and Australia.

Hypolimnas bolina is a black-bodied butterfly with a wingspan of about 70–85 millimetres (2.8–3.3 in). The species has a high degree of sexual dimorphism. The female is mimetic with multiple morphs.

The upperside of the wings of the female is a brownish black and does not have any spots like those of the male. The edges bear white markings which are similar to those of the common Indian crow.
தமிழ்: பெரிய பசலைச்சிறகன் ( Great eggfly - Hypolimnas bolina ) இந்தியா, மடகாஸ்கர், ஆஸ்திரேலியா உள்ளிட்ட பகுதிகளில் காணப்படும் வரியன்கள் குடும்பத்தை சேர்ந்த வண்ணத்துபூச்சி ஆகும்.

உருவ அளவில் சற்று பெரிய வண்ணத்துபூச்சிகளான இவற்றின் சிறகளவு 7-11 செமீ வரை இருக்கும். உடற்பகுதி கருமை நிறம் கொண்டிருக்கும். இவை பாலின உருவ வேறுபாடு கொண்டிருப்பதால் ஆண் மற்றும் பெண் பூச்சிகளை இனம் காணுதல் சற்று சுலபமாகும்.

ஆண் பூச்சிகளின் மேற்புற சிறகு அடர்ந்த கருமை நிறத்துடன் மூன்று நீலம் கலந்த வெண்மை நிற திட்டுக்களை கொண்டிருக்கும். இந்த மூன்று திட்டுக்களில் இரண்டு முன் சிறகிலும் ஒன்று பின் சிறகிலும் அமைந்திருக்கும்.

பெண் பூச்சிகளின் மேற்புற சிறகானது கருப்பு கலந்த பழுப்பு நிறத்துடனும், ஆண் பூச்சிகளில் காணப்படும் திட்டுக்கள் போன்று எந்த வித திட்டுக்களும் அல்லாமல் காணப்படும்.
