| Description |
English: Greenford station, with DMU leaving, 1991. View eastward, towards London and Ealing. The scene is from the centre island platform used by the LT Underground Central Line western extension, dating from 30/6/47 when the extension from North Acton was opened, going on to West Ruislip from 21/11/48. The bay platform in the middle is used by the shuttle service from Ealing on the ex-GWR West Ealing/Hanwell - Greenford Loop. The ex-GWR former Paddington - Birmingham main line (New North Main Line, Acton - Northolt section) via High Wycombe, passes over on the left, but this has long since ceased to carry passenger services and is now a single line, little-used. (See Link ). The LT lines are seen to rise steeply ahead as they cross the east-south loop, which still survives, between the main line and the line to West Ealing. Here a DMU is seen departing for Ealing via West Ealing - and the signal-arm is only just returning to the vertical. |
