Summary edit

Description Simplified greenhouse effect, with a single layer of greenhouse gases as a perfect black body for thermal radiation. At a temperature of 255 K, the earth is in thermal equilibrium with the sun. The 'roof' is radiating both upward and downward, so that the earth surface receives twice the radiation energy. For realistic numbers, see Image:Greenhouse Effect.png.
