Summary edit

Description
English: Grim's Ditch, Stockton Wood near Stockton 3. Grim's Ditch, an ancient earthwork runs west to east through Great Ridge and then into Stockton Wood. In this view, looking south-east, the ditch has run south for 130m and makes a right angled turn towards the east. The name Grim's Ditch, meaning 'the Devil's ditch', was given by the Anglo-Saxons to any linear earthwork, see 469839. It is remarkable that after possibly 3000 years - though the earthwork has likely been re-used - the ditch can clearly still be seen.
