Animal characteristics: Head-Body Length: male: 220 cm, female: 180 cm; Weight: male: 275 kg, female: 91 kg; Identification: The Galapagos sea lion has a dark chestnut brown coloration; Habitat: Coasts and islands; Diet: Carnivore: fish, octopus, squid; Reproduction: Mating occurs a few days after females give birth to a single calf in May-January. Calves are weaned anywhere from 5-12 months of age; Social Structure: Groups of sea lions can be seen in the breeding and nonbreeding seasons; Behavior: Males establish territories only during the breeding season; Status: No special status; Interesting Facts: Because of its trainability, the Galapagos sea lion is the most commonly seen species in marine shows.
