| Description |
English: As seen in January 2021. A historic plaque (which, arguably, is itself historic; having been erected in 1932 by the Buffalo Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution) identifies North Street as the former "Guide Board Road", a pathway extending west from Main Street that dated to the earliest history of white settlement in what's now Buffalo, along which transiting covered wagons (as depicted on the plaque) and local farmers could access the docks of the Black Rock Ferry on the Niagara River. The Guide Board Road is also important in local War of 1812 history, as one of the two routes followed into town by invading British troops on the eve of the Burning of Buffalo in December 1813. |
