Description
English: The statue of a hōkioi or extinct New Zealand eagle (Aquila moorei) called Te Maia Kahurangi, was unveiled on 22 February 2020 in Karamea, New Zealand. The hōkioi is the guardian of the Karamea Estuary, and the statue depicts the ancestor Maia who rode an eagle he raised from a chick.
