English: HMS Thrasher, 15 and 16 February 1942. Results of Bombing After the Submarine's Successful Attack on a Heavily Escorted Supply Ship Off Suda Bay. 21 March 1942. Petty Officer T W Gould and Lieut P S W Roberts Were Awarded the Vc For Great Valour While Serving in HMS Thrasher. in the Dark They Removed Two Unexploded Bombs, One of Which Had Penetrated the Gun Platform Casing. Photo Shows Positions of Bombs USING Letters To Represent Positions.
A - where bomb penetrated the gun platform. A1 - the position where the bomb was discovered inside the casing. B - Position where 2nd unexploded bomb was discovered lying on the casing, bomb represented by the tin can. C - Petty Officer Gould, VC, standing in the casing-hatch through which bomb from A1 was dragged. Note: THRASHER was at periscope depth, 34 feet, and going deep when the bombs struck her.
