Summary edit

Description
English:
Votive column (other names: Hadrianus column dedicated to Imperator Caesar Traianus Hadrianus Augustusm Roman column), the replica column was made by sculptor András Kontur, installed in 2017. Emperor Hadrian – who was governor of Aquincum before his accession to the throne and to whom the Roman predecessor of Óbuda owes a great deal. The votive column was modelled on a votive column unearthed from the sanctuary of one of the villas of the military town of Aquincum, which stood along today's Szépvölgyi Road, on top of which originally stood the statue of the god Iupiter Teutanus. The original column, carved from limestone in the 3rd century AD, can now be seen in the permanent exhibition building of the Aquincum Museum, and a copy in front of the old museum building. The inscription on the pedestal: ERECTED BY ÓBUDA-BÉKÁSMEGYER MUNICIPALITY FOR THE 1900th ANNIVERSARY OF EMPEROR HADRIAN ACCESSION TO THE THRONE. THE ORIGINAL ROMAN COLUMN LOCATED IN THE AQUINCUM MUSEUM - at Hadrianus Street and Hatvany Lajos Street corner, Békásmegyer neighbourhood, 3rd district of Budapest.
