Summary edit

Description
English: Harbour Master's offices from Avon New Cut Nowadays, few boats sail up or down the New Cut - traffic being concentrated in the Floating Harbour. To celebrate the 200 years since its completion (1809) sightseeing boat trips have been undertaken this year, and this shot of the red brick buildings, backing onto Cumberland Road, was taken from the ferry. These house the Harbour Master and his staff at the Underfall Yard. The block with the pitched roof is original : that with the flat roof was re-built after being damaged in a wartime bombing raid. Clearly seen are the brick arches carrying the roadway and, in the background, one of the three giant tobacco bonds once used for storing imported tobacco leaves to be used at W.D.Wills and other cigarette factories.
