Summary edit

Description
English: Harden Quarry, Biddlestone. This active quarry in the Northumberland National Park is one of the few places in the UK where naturally red stone (a mica-porphyritic type of granite known as 'Red Whin') can be obtained. It is particularly suitable for specialised use in road surfaces sold under the trademark 'Harden Red'. It has been used all over Britain to identify motorway hard-shoulders 272921 and notably on the Mall in London 1203014 and 831799. Until recently the red chippings were also exported from Berwick for cycle paths across Europe.
