English: LMS 4F 0-6-0 on Down express at Haresfield. View northward, towards Gloucester: ex- Midland Birmingham - Bristol main line. A picture taken in the pouring rain, probably from the little wayside station at Haresfield (closed in 1965), eschewed by the GWR that pass on the right. On peak Summer Saturdays 4F 0-6-0s were pressed into express services in the early 1950s: here it is a stalwart on this line, No. 44523 (built 1928 , withdrawn 7/63) working the 09.40 Sheffield Midland - Bournemouth West. |
