Havasupai Indian woman basket maker, ca.1900
Photograph of a Havasupai Indian woman basket maker, ca.1900. She is wearing a brightly patterned cloth over her shoulders and a plaid dress. She is knealing on a blanket on the ground with two small shallow baskets and the beginnings of a third in front of her. She has one end of a straw or reed in her mouth as she works the other end of it with her hands. Part of another basket is visible at her side at right. Behind her is a rough stick and branch dwelling with rugs or blankets hanging on the side or sitting in the opening.
