Summary edit
DescriptionHaworth Churchyard - geograph.org.uk - 128220.jpg |
English: Haworth Churchyard. Seen from the window of the Servants Room in Bronte Parsonage. Notice how many gravestones are lying flat. In 1850 Benjamin Babbage inspected Haworth for the Board of Health and recommended that the gravestones should not be laid flat, as it restricted the growth of shrubs which help decomposition. So the later stones are upright, and trees were planted as well. |
