Description |
Photograph of the home of Charles H. Hayden, Secretary and Treasurer of P. Hayden Saddlery Hardware Company. The house was built by Dr. Francis Carter, professor at Starling Medical College, in 1842 as a wedding present for his wife Belle Espy. Prior to its purchase by Mr. Hayden, the house served as the Governor's mansion; Salmon P. Chase had purchased the home in 1857 and resided there during his term as Governor from 1858-1859. In 1910, it was sold to the Knights of Columbus. The home no longer stands. The site is now owned by the Salesian Society. |
