Description |
English: A painting of the Head of Christ or Vera Icon ("True Image"), thought to be a copy after a lost painting by the Netherlandish master Jan van Eyck. The original was painted in 1438 or 1440. This copy (oil on panel, 35.0 x 23.5 cm) probably dates from 1475-1500. Purchased by Prince Albert with the Oettingen-Wallerstein collection in 1847 and since then part of the Royal Collection (United Kingdom). |
