DescriptionHeatwave in the Iberian Peninsula (Copernicus).jpg |
English: The Iberian Peninsula, imaged by one of Copernicus Sentinel-3 satellites on 27 September, is undergoing an unseasonal heat wave. After a particularly hot summer, the high pressure has caused the rise of warm African air from the Sahara, which is also overheated by solar radiation and hardly hindered by the almost total absence of clouds. This resulted in temperature rise of around 10ºC above the average for this time of the year. October will be one of the hottest on record in the Peninsula, according to the State Meteorological Agency (AEMET), temperatures will be, depending on the area, five to ten degrees above the historical average for this time of year. The Copernicus Climate Change Service provides essential data and insights to understand the impact of heatwaves worldwide. |
