Description COCHITI LAKE, N.M. — Fire crews working the Las Conchas fire have set up operations at the Cochiti Lake campgrounds, July 3, 2011. The primary U.S. Army Corps of Engineers/Cochiti Project role in this operation is to provide general support , secured operating space for helicopters and other equipment and sleeping space for tired fire teams. The orange umbrella-looking item on the ground is called a “Bambi Bucket.” It is attached via cables to the helicopter, and dipped into the lake to collect water. Crew members can release a valve in the bottom from the cockpit to dump water on the fire.
