Description
English: Herald Building, Montpelier
  • This building was once the main offices for the Harrogate Herald newspaper.
  • The slightly faded painted notices on the wall announces 'List of Visitors' on Wednesdays and Saturdays. Those visiting this fashionable town in the 1920's would eagerly scan the pages of the Herald to see which minor European royals were in town or which famous people they might bump into at the Pump Room or Royal Baths. Princess Alexandra of Hesse visited several times around the turn of the century. Staying in Harrogate would have eventually proved safer than marrying Czar Nicholas 2nd.
  • The ground floor is now partly occupied by the Slug and Lettuce bar/restaurant.
