Der bürgerliche Tag der Babylonier begann nach Sonnen-untergang, ihr Monat an dem Abend, da die feine Sichel deswachsenden Mondes nach seiner Konjunktion mit der Sonnezum erstenmal am Westhimmel bemerkt wurde. Da dieses Schau-spiel sich entweder nach 29 oder nach 30 Tagen erneuerte, um-faßten die babylonischen Monate entweder 29 oder 30 Tage, siewaren, nach der Terminologie der griechischen Astronomen,entweder „ho/il oder „voil. 12 Monate machen ein Jahr aus,dessen Anfang auf das Frühlingsäquinoktium oder doch in dieNähe dieses Tages fallen sollte. Da jedoch das Frühlings-äquinoktium sich erst nach fast 365y^ Tag wiederholte, wäh-rend 12 babylonische Monate zusammen durchschnittlich nur (y- J • 12 = > 354 Tage enthielten, mußte man, wenn man nicht von dem Äquinoktium, dem idealen Jahresanfang, voll-ständig abgedrängt werden
