English: This woman from north western Namibia belongs to the Himba tribe, a tribe who still lives according to traditional customs. The woman, who stay at home tending to the children while the men graze their cattle on treks in search of pasture, performs a daily cleansing ritual in the morning. This ritual includes grounding red rocks to a fine powder and mixing it with animal fat. They rub their bodies with the red mixture giving them a permanent red glow while protecting them from insect bites and sun exposure. They also braid their hair and add the red mixture to it to form long red strings of hair. She also burns a mixture of herbs to form a smoke with which she cleanses herself.
