Notes
  • Significance: The house was built as a summer place for Daniel Coggeshall of Newport, and continued in use as a summer farm for the Casey family in the nineteenth century. The dwelling, with its gable-on-hip roof, bears some similarity to eighteenth-century housing in Newport. Many of the outbuildings date to the nineteenth century, and the farm is a reminder today of the plantation life that characterized much of the area around coastal South Kingstown. Thomas Lincoln Casey (the engineer associated with architectural projects in Washington, DC, and New York) inherited the property and his son Edward gave it to SPNEA in 1955.
  • Survey number: HABS RI-41
  • Building/structure dates: 1725 Initial Construction
  • Building/structure dates: 1955 Subsequent Work
