Notes
  • Significance: One of a dozen of large brick mansions built at the height of Nantucket's prosperity and still owned by the family of the original owner. This 5-bay, 2 1/2 story brick house was built by Henry Coffin in 1834 and is typical of the few brick houses built on the island. It is one of the very few houses still in the hands of the original family, being owned at present by Mrs. Henry Coffin Carlisle, the builder's granddaughter-in-law. In her possession and of interest is the account book kept by Henry Coffin during construction which records as the total cost of the house, $8,291.43.
  • Survey number: HABS MA-811
  • Building/structure dates: ca. 1835 Initial Construction
