When Granville was first settled, it wassupposed that Worthington would be thecapital of Ohio, between which and Zanes-ville, this would make a great half-way town.At this time, snakes, wolves and Indiansabounded in^ this region. On the pleasantspring mornings, large numbers of snakeswere found running on the flat stones. Uponprying up the stones, there was found asingular fact respecting the social nature ofserpents. Dens were found containing verydiscordant materials, twenty or thirty rattle-snakes, black-snakes and copper-heads, allcoiled up together. Their liberal terms of Shepardsons College for AVomen, Granville Female College.
