Description Aerial view of the Hood Canal Bridge - the central portion, with retractable draw span. The bridge has two retractable draw spans which connect in the center. When the bridge needs to be opened for marine traffic, each span retracts, one moving west, the other east. In 2009, the east drawspan's base was rebuilt from the split-roadway design shown in this 2007 photo to the same design as seen here for the west drawspan base.
