Summary edit
DescriptionHorseshoe Bend - geograph.org.uk - 727513.jpg |
English: Horseshoe Bend Here the line curves around Cwm-yr-ogos which has become known as the 'Horseshoe Bend'. This was the location of a silver-lead mine known as Rhuroggos and then Erwtomau. Considerable quantities of ore were transported by the railway from the here to Aberystwyth. Although a siding was planned, none was built and wagons were loaded directly on the running line. The mine finally closed in 1918.
Notice that a check rail has been incorporated in the track, to prevent derailments on the sharp curve. |
