Once a bordello in Galveston

Summary edit

Description
English: Two-story wooden residence; rectangular with low-pitched hipped roof; two interior chimneys; S. facade is 2-bay with paired windows and recessed entrance; attached porches on first floor, separate one over door 1 W. facade has centered entrance with 2-story porch with pediment and remnants of bracketed cornice on side; windows are all shuttered; house rests on brick piers.

This is the last house remaining in area that was the famous Postoffice red-light district during the years Galveston was a wide open town -- gambling, prostitution, crooked authorities, any vice you can think of. It is the only surviving building of the strip. Tax records indicate that it was built about 1886 by a Mollie Walters, the madam of this bordello.
