Description
English: This picture is dominated by two fairly grand, large, square residential buildings. In the background the church spire is visible. In the middle of the picture is large ball of heavy black smoke.

The slang British term used here for German, 'Hun', gained popular usage after Kaiser Wilhelm II urged his troops to 'behave like Huns' to win the war. It was important to the retreating side that nothing of use was left for the advancing army.
[Original reads: 'In the trail of the Hun. A house set on fire by the Germans as they were driven out of the village.']
