DescriptionHoward's Hotel in Daphne Alabama between 1900 and 1905.jpg | Howard Hotel (now Bayside Academy) in Daphne, Alabama circa 1900-1905. It was built in 1833 by Captain William Howard from Connecticut. It was hit several times by artillery during the Battle of Mobile Bay, but survived with minimal damage. William Dryer of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the hotel in 1894. At this time the name was changed to the Daphne Springs Hotel, and later, to the Dryer Hotel. The building was altered and reduced to 1 1/2 stories when converted from a hotel into a private residence in 1943. | |||||||
