Description |
English: White paper with typed black text Hon. Strom Thurmond United States Senate Washington, D.C. Dear Senator Thurmond: Thank you for your inquiry on behalf of Representative John A. May of South Carolina, relating to a proposed Confederate memorial at Gettysburg. The general outlines of the design are satisfactory to the National Park Service, and only a few details remain to be decided upon. Superintendent Kittridge Wing of the Gettysburg National Military Park will confer on Tuesday, July 28, with Judge William M. Beard, Judge Advocate General of the Sons of Confederate Veterans, and with Mrs. Robert Hamilton Smith, President of the United Daughters of the Confederacy with a view to making final decisions which will be mutually satisfactory. Your interest in this project is greatly appreciated. Sincerely yours, Howard R. Stagner Acting Assistant Director
