The 1875 oil painting The Last Muster which made Herkomer famous overnight is based on this wood-engraving.

  • One example which was owned by the Van Gogh family is held by the Van Gogh Museum, Amsterdam, as of now. Besides Jean-François Millet, Herkomer was a major artistic model for Van Gogh, who especially at the beginning was completely into Social Realism.
