f the eyes ; the two temporal bones formpart of the sides and base of the skull, and contain thecavities of the organ of hearing ; the sphenoid bone, re-sembling a bat with outstretched wings, forms the centralportion of the base of the skull ; the ethmoid bone, locatedin the front part of the base of the skull, forms part of thecavities of the nose and the inner boundaries of the orbitsof the eyes. In addition to these are the four small bonesof the middle cavity of the ear. 6. The inner surface of these bones is marked withnumerous elevations and depressions which correspondwith similar inequalities on the surface of the brain. 7.
