Description
English: Sailors aboard the multipurpose amphibious assault ship USS Bataan (LHD 5) offload supplies in the ship's hangar bay as Bataan prepares to depart Naval Station Norfolk to provide humanitarian Assistance / Disaster Response in the aftermath of Haiti's devastating earthquake. USS Bataan (LHD 5), USS Fort McHenry (LSD 43) and USS Carter Hall (LSD 50) deployed Jan. 14, 2010. Providing military support capabilities to civil authorities to help stabilize and improve the situation in the wake of natural and man-made disasters is a core Navy mission.
