Switching Arrangements. The leads from the high-tension side of the transformersconsist of three-conductor, rubber-covered lead-armored cablespassing out of the compartments through iron pipe and clayducts built in the partition wall which divides the transformerroom from the switch room and pass down through the walland under the floor to Westinghouse oil switches on the bus-bar room floor. One set of switches is opposite each of thetransformer pairs which it controls. These switches are of thethree-compartment oil-break type and are remote controlledfrom panels in the power station. Current for their operationis taken from the exciter busses. The control button for theswitches on the high-tension side of any pair of transformers

From the oil switches the 14.000-volt current is ledthrough concealed ducts in the floor and up through the divi-sion wall to a point midway between two sets of high-tensionbusbars supported on this wall. The lead from the oil 488 ELECTRIC RAILWAY REVIEW August, 1906. switch is taken to the center point of a hook-type selectorswitch by means of which a transformer unit can be thrownonto either of the duplicate sets of 14,000-volt busbars. Theupper terminals of the hook switches for each of the phasesare connected to the upper busses and the lower terminals tothe lower busses. These selector switches are in a line acrossthe building with the transformer unit and oil switch withwhich they are connected.
