By appoint-ment of the First Presidency in 1909he compiled and published ZionsSanger, in the Swedish language, andZions Sange, in the Danish-Norweg-ian language, both words and music.For some years he was a member ofthe force of Elders in Ensign Stakeset apart to administer to the sick inthe hospitals. He also labored as amissionary in the Ensign Stake amongthe non-Mormon population, andfrom his early youth served as a blockteacher. Since returning from his lastmission. Brother Peterson has againbeen employed in the Church Histori-ans Office. Brother Peterson has always beenan observer of the Word of Wisdom,and says that through thus living anexemplary life, he is enjoying suchhealth and vigor as usually are en-joyed only by younger people. Text Appearing After Image: (Mary Ann Erlandson), who had emi-grated to Utah in 1862 and settled atLehi. There Joseph was baptized andordained successively to the offices ofDeacon, Priest and Elder. As a boyhe herded stock on the range in thesummer and studied in the winter. Heis an ardent lover of nature and alsoof books, and it was hard for him tochoose his vocation in life. But by theadvice of his parents he entered theBrigham Young University in Provo,in 1891, graduating from that institu-tion in 1897 with the degree of Bache-lor of Pedagogy. In 1898 he was calledto go to Arizona, as principal of theSnowflake Academy, and has residedin Navajo County, Arizona, ever since.On Dec. 10, 1900, he was ordained aHigh Priest by Pres. Jesse N. Smithand set apart as a member of the StakeHigh Council, and on Oct. 19, 1924, wasset apart by Pres. Rudger Clawson asfirst counselor to Pres.
