Text Appearing Before Image: (Andrew), an active Elder in the Church, was bornJune 20, 1832, In Dahlsland, Bralandasocken (parish), Elfsborg Ian, Sweden,the son of Borge Pehrson and his wifeMaria Jansson. He was one of a fam-ily of five children, his brothers andsisters being Joseph, Anna Katrine,Martha Kaisa and Britta Maria. Hisfather died when he was about threeyears old and his mother passed awayabout five years later. This causedthe family to be scattered among rela-tives and friends, and his uncle (hismothers brother) took charge of theestate and little Anders lived in his family. During his boyhood days hesuffered many hardships, being com-pelled to herd sheep in the fields untillate fall and again in early spring,barefooted. While in the fields in thiscapacity he often earned a few penniesby opening and closing gates as mem-bers of the nobility crossed the estatein carriages. Borgeson was afaithful and energetic worker in theChurch, first as a local missionary andlater as president of the RastockBranch of the Goteborg Conference inSweden. Being an ardent missionaryhe baptized a number of converts,which alarmed the local sectarian min-isters, who, in 1862, succeeded in get-ting him imprisoned for preaching.He served a term of 28 days in theVennersborg prison on a bread andwater diet. Here he was denied theusual privilege of being given regularprison fare every fifth day and the BIOGRAPHICAL ENCYCLOPEDIA 85 Saints feared for his health—^but hewas none the worse for his experience.Shortly afterwards he and his wifeleft Sweden with a company of L. D. S.emigrants bound for Utah. Crossingthe North Sea in a steamer theyproceeded by rail to Liverpool, Eng-land, where they boarded the goodship B. S. Kimball
