Porte d'un immeuble art nouveau inspiré par le romantisme national situé au n°12a de la rue Skolas Cet immeuble a été construit en 1900 par l'architecte E. Buss L'objectif du romantisme national était de créer un mouvement architectural inspiré des traditions historiques et populaires de la Lettonie. Il s'agissait alors d'affirmer une identité nationale face à l'impérialisme russe du début du siècle et à l'autoritarisme du tsar Nicolas II. A la même époque, les finlandais ont lutté pour obtenir leur indépendance qui ne leur a été accordée qu'après la révolution russe, ils ont créé un style art nouveau inspiré de la culture populaire traditionnelle comme le montrent les immeubles art nouveau d'Helsinki.
