Summary edit

Description
English: Time-lapse video showing mitochondrial trafficking in sham-stimulated axons in vivo. Mouse saphenous nerve was de-sheathed and the mitochondria labelled with TMRM (red), and stimulating and recording electrodes were positioned proximally and distally to the imaging site, as described in Methods. The electrophysiological equipment was turned on, but no stimuli were delivered. Most mitochondria appear stationary, but some short mitochondria are mobile, moving either towards the foot (right) or proximally. A node of Ranvier can be seen in the uppermost axon. Note: Please use Internet Explorer to download; some browsers seem to distort the video and dramatically reduce their quality. Videos may be best viewed in Windows Media Player.
